What is the program about?

The Lifeline Service Program is a program designed to reduce the basic, monthly cost of telephone services.

Who is eligible?

Program eligibility criteria is based on income. These criteria are based on the Poverty Guidelines, periodically updated by the Federal Register of the United States Department of Health and Human Resources under the authority of 42 U.S.C. §9902(2). For eligibility, total household income must be equal to or less than 135% of the Federal Poverty Code or participate in one of the following programs:

• Medicaid
• Food Stamps
• Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
• Federal Public Housing Assistance
• Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
• Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
• National School Lunch Program (NSL)

How to apply to receive Lifeline benefits?

To make use of this program please call us or stop by any of the Chat Mobility sales locations. Be sure to bring with you any documentation that may support the eligibility guidelines outlined above. Example of this would be:

Federal or State Tax Documents

Statements from three consecutive months of paychecks from work or current income statements from the employer; Social Security Administration benefit statements; Retirement/pension benefit statements; Veterans Administration benefit statements; Unemployment/Workman's Compensation benefit statements; Divorce Certificate or Child Support Documents.

Are the phones offered on discount?

Customers will need to purchase the phones at regular price.

Would I have to sign a contract?

Chat Mobility does not require a contract for customers who qualify for Lifeline Assistance.

Once I qualify for Lifeline Assistance, where do I go to get service?

Customers can go to any of the following locations:

  • Glenwood–906 Locust
  • Emerson–404 Howland
  • Shenandoah – 409 S Fremont
  • Red Oak – 909 Senate Ave
  • Clarinda – 1103 S. 16th St

  • Plan 1 - $29.95

    What do I get with this plan?

    • Unlimited minutes for local calls calls must be originated and received within the Chat Mobility network

    • Long Distance Charges – $.12 per minute calls must be originated and received within the Chat Mobility network

    The previous plan includes the following services without additional charges:

    • Local calls • Access to the 9-1-1 emergency line

    • Touch Tone Capability

    • Access to Inter-exchange Service Providers

    • Voice Grade access to the public switched network

    • Single Party Service

    • Toll Limitation

    Above rate plan includes the following services for an additional fee:

    • Access to Operator Services – Charges will apply.

    • Access to Directory Assistance – Charges will apply.

    *Basic monthly access rate calculated before all taxes and fees and applies to select lifeline plans. Chat Mobility offers three basic Lifeline plans that do not require a credit check and/or deposit: other plans may require a credit check and/or deposit. Lifeline credit amount varies by region. Wireless phone must be purchased from Chat Mobility on its current (CDMA) technology, if an existing wireless phone is used for service, it must have originally been purchased from Chat Mobility and on Chat Mobility CDMA technology platform.   • Plan 2 - $39.95

    • Local unlimited minutes
    Calls must originate and terminate on the Chat Mobility network.
    • Long Distance charges – $.08 per minute
    Calls that originate on the Chat Mobilitynetwork and terminate outside the Chat Mobility network for Chat Mobility customers.
    • Roaming charges – $.39 per minute
    Calls that originate and/or terminate off the Chat Mobility network.

    Above plan includes the following services at no charge:
    • Local Calling
